Obsidian

Starting over sucks.
When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.
And then he opened his mouth.
Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.
The hot alien living next door marks me.
You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.
If I don't kill him first, that is.

I had seen this series and I knew it was about aliens but that's all I knew. At first I thought not many people had read it and since the cover has models that have been in other books, I thought it wouldn't be as great. Yes, I judged the book by its cover, I hoped I was done doing that. Still, aside from the two models, I loved the cover.
I chose it for this month because it seemed to have the kind of alien I like and it would be the typical romance between a paranormal character and a human girl. So I was hoping I'd like it, but I didn't know what I'd think about it.

I think the summary gives too much away, I didn't mind knowing about the aliens before the main character though. The good thing, is I didn't read it before starting it.
The character's hobby is a little weird, I mean I understand how it was an easy way for most readers to connect with her, but reading about it was a little weird for me. Another good thing, they only mention it about 5 times. You know it's there, so that's enough to feel close to her.

Other than that, I loved this book, it was not what I thought it would be. It's settled, I love the good aliens that aren't trying to kill us.
I liked the characters, they were so funny, sometimes mean and they're probably annoying, but I found it really funny. I was waiting to know why he acted the way he did. So is it a bit predictable? Maybe, but I loved his personality. It was different, not your typical paranormal character that is sweet and stalks the main character as soon as he meets the human girl.
I like how she keeps standing up for herself and doesn't let him win.

I liked the ending, again, not your typical ending for this type of romance. The romance was different, they had moments when they got carried away but they're supposed to be teenagers.

There were some parts where I kept wondering if it was realistic; would you trust someone like that? Could you change that easily? Would you come to that conclusion so fast? But after finishing the book, I decided I loved it, in spite of all of these questions.

What else can I say about it? I think it's one of those books that aren't that popular but are better than others that everyone is reading. I planned on reading one book a month so I'd be done on time for the release of the fourth book. Now, I can't wait to read the others, I'm still leaving one a month, but I wish I didn't have planned it that way. I couldn't put this book down, if I could have, I would have read it in one night.

Favorite parts:
"Even I want to kill him on days that end with a Y"
"I'm not your knight." Oh yeah, he was mean!
"A month with you and I feel like I have a master's degree in the subject"
"Yes, but normal is so boring sometimes."

  1. I also thought this was a pretty amusing read, and I liked how Katy insulted Daemon right back. Glad to see that you enjoyed reading this, too!

  2. Yes! That's why it was a 5 to me too. No matter the little things that you are thinking to yourself are wrong with it...could you put it down?? NO??? Then it was a 5 star book LOL. I thought it was fantastic. I know there were some predictable things...there were some questionable things yes...but I just couldn't help loving everything about it. Fantastic review! 4. Yay, you finally read Obsidian :) I gave this three stars because the romance was kind of predictable but I enjoyed this oh so much :)

  5. Yay, you got an alien fix. Sadness you have to wait to read one a month. I put similar restrictions on myself so I can get to books I have waiting. I've only read the first one in the series because I don't like cliffhangers. I'd rather wait to have a marathon. I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Happy Reading, Rivie!!

  6. I've read a few books that the summary did give to much of the book away. Kind of disappointing. Glad you enjoyed it!
