Delirium

They say that the cure for Love will make me happy and safe forever.

And I've always believed them.

Until now.

Now everything has changed.

Now, I'd rather be infected with love for the tiniest sliver of a second than live a hundred years smothered by a lie.

Lena looks forward to receiving the government-mandated cure that prevents the delirium of love and leads to a safe, predictable, and happy life, until ninety-five days before her eighteenth birthday and her treatment, when she falls in love.

The world in Delirium is very interesting, yes it's a little weird and even though it made me mad most of the time what they thought and how they acted I liked the book. That is until the end.

The belief in Delirium doesn't exist in our world but the way they acted made me think of certain places in our real world and how similar they are. All their rules and punishments exist here as well. This made me think of what's happening around us, I don't know how the people living there feel, if they feel trapped or if for them is normal.

At first I didn't like how the main character thinks and acts but it's all she knows, so when we start really understanding what is happening to her, she becomes a little more tolerable because I get how the things that happened to her made her the way she is. Was it a defense mechanism, I don't know but I find it interesting. If only we could have seen more of that explained in the book. I know it's a YA book and its main purpose is not educational or a research about the human brain and how it would work under certain circumstances but I'd like to study how all of it affects the brain.

I considered giving it three monkey bookmarks but I really enjoyed this book so I had to settle for four. I think this book made me realize that my favorite books are YA dystopian novels with a little paranormal. Before I got to the end I did want to read the other books but now after I saw the end of the first one and what I've heard of Pandemonium I'm a disappointed.

I think the plot was very intriguing, I had not thought of a place like that and I like how it's somehow realistic. It's full of emotions in a place that lacks emotions, the character's lives are very interesting and it makes you wonder what we have and what we take for granted. For us is normal, we complain about things that don't matter because we are used to having freedom and everything is easier for us growing up, but we never stop to think how it would be if we didn't have any of it. If every feeling and memory would be taken from us, what would our lives be like? What is the purpose of life if we go through it like robots, following orders, lacking emotions.
